Andre Johnson has accepted a deal for seven years with Houston Texans. Johnson will be receiving an amount of $73.5 million for all these seven years. In this deal, Johnson has been guaranteed with $13 million. On Thursday, the deal was announced by Houston Texans.
With this revised contract, Andre Johnson will be highest NFL player for 2010. Andre Johnson spoke about this deal in the press meet and he said that “he is feeling very happy for this deal and there is nothing to complaint about it”. Andre Johnson has not completed his five years contract of $5.8 million yet. In the NFL history, Johnson is the second best player who scored and played 1,500-yard seasons.
In the last NFL season, Johnson had 101 receptions and 9 touchdowns. For this season, he signed a deal for five years. In the year 2008-09, Johnson has broken the records in the NFL history by scoring 216 receptions for 3,144 yards from opposing defenses. The Houston Texans owner, Bob McNair said that the deal with Andre Johnson will be completed in the coming two weeks.
The NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell suspended Ben Roethlisberger for six games for the 2010 NFL season. Roger said that Ben Roethlisberger will not play in the Pittsburgh Steelers team till week 6.
However, the decision needs to be taken by NFL, whether Ben Roethlisberger is allowed to play with Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL Spokesman, Goodell said that “There is no penalty charged for Ben Roethlisberger but he was restricted for violating the NFL policy”. But, the penalty may be reduced to four games for Roethlisberger.
Roger Goodell reportedly said to the media that Ben Roethlisberger is a very good player and he is performing very well in the team. Despite of this, he needs to understand the reason behind suspension for the NFL season.
Ben Roethlisberger has attended the behavioral evaluation program and responded to NFL commission. The Pittsburgh Steelers has already started practicing the game and ready for the 2010 NFL season.
In a possible attempt to assert himself as the new sheriff in town, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan informed defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth that h would need to complete a conditioning test in order to practice with the first team.
Haynesworth, who had skipped all off season training with the Redskins in protest of their switch to a 3 – 4 defensive scheme, was told he would need to complete two 300 yard sprints in a satisfactory time when he arrived at practice.
He completed the first two in sufficient time, but sources say that Shanahan felt the Haynesworth had too much rest time between his two runs, and demanded he do another.
He failed his third run.
Haynesworth now must practice with only the backups at training camp, until the head coach allows him to be re-tested.
Shanahan is looking to rebuild the Redskins after many disappointing seasons, and there has been friction between him and Haynesworth since he took over the team early in the year. Haynesworth signed with the Skins in 2009 and was mostly ineffective the entire season.
The Redskins also acquired QB Donovan McNabb for this season, so expectations are very high, their Super Bowl winning odds are currently at 33/1, better than they’ve been in any of the last four seasons.
Brett Favre and Vikings coach Brad Childress have discussed many subjects on Monday. But they have not discussed about whether he will play in 2010 or not. Brett Favre told to USA today that he don’t know about deadline and Favre and coach Childress have not discussed about deadline.
Once again, Favre goes into the offseason without announcing what he will do. Favre who is having 40 years old had two ankle surgeries in 1995 and 2007 when he was with the Packers.
But in Favre and Childress discussion, Childress has not set any deadline in the dealings with Favre.
Chris Johnson And The Tennessee Titans: It looks like 2009 NFL leading rusher and top offensive player of the year, running back (RB) Chris Johnson, will report to Tennessee Titans training camp after all.
According to a number of reports, Johnson and the Titans have come to terms on a renegotiated deal that will see the RB receive much more than the $550,000 base salary he was to earn this season — he was the lowest paid running back on the Tennessee roster.
The AP and NFL.com both report that Johnson will receive $2 million this season with the Titans converting performance incentives that were due in 2012 into part of his salary for the upcoming season.
The two outlets also report that Johnson will be paid $800,000 in 2011 and $960,000 in 2012.
As mentioned, Johnson led the AFC and the entire NFL in rushing with 2,006 rushing yards last season and thought that he was worth more than his then five-year, $12 million deal — the Titans said he wouldn’t be eligible for a hefty raise because of league rules.
However, the deal is not done yet with Johnson denying a deal and the Titans offering no comment — ESPN says that both sides are looking over the deal and it could be signed within the next two days.
Currently, Chris Johnson is listed at +5000 to be named the NFL’s MVP for the 2010 regular season and he is listed at +300 to repeat his feat as the league’s leading rusher.
The Tennessee Titans are listed at +1600 to take the AFC title and +2500 to win the Super Bowl.
NFL betting has been the talk around the water cooler in recent days as the NFL futures have been released by sportsbook odds makers. With the lines up, everyone is projecting their final standings of the 2010-11 regular season even though we haven’t even hit training camp yet.
One team that looks particularly good – for betting purposes – is the Oakland Raiders. No, this is not a joke.
The Raiders regular season win total is set at 5.5 and when you look at the makeup of this team, six wins is very reasonable.
For starters, they have a competent quarterback manning the show and we all know the value of a good quarterback. Jason Campbell doesn’t exactly have a ton of weapons to work with but considering the Raiders won five games without him, his addition is worth at least one more win.
Beyond that, expect the ripple effect to be felt through the offense. The Raiders have always been a decent rushing team but now they should be able to be a little more two-dimensional, which means more points and less pressure on the defense.
Speaking of that defense, they managed to bring Richard Seymour back and add John Henderson, Kamerion Wimbley, Quentin Groves and Rolando McClain to the defense.
The most important factor you have to remember with the Raiders is the division they play in. Sure, they’ll lose twice to the San Diego Chargers but they should get two wins against Kansas City and compete with Denver. Overall, this is one of the easier divisions in the NFL.
Yes, it is still is the Raiders but this team is good enough to win six games.
