The New Orleans Saints have only just lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy and already the bookies have released odds on the winners of the 2011 Super Bowl.
The betting market for Super Bowl XLV is one of the most open for years with this year’s losing team, the Colts, installed as 9/1 favorites. The Saints are 10/1 second favorites to record back-to-back victories. Anyone thinking of betting the Colts needs to be aware of the curse of the Super Bowl loser – in the past eight years only one team has made the playoffs after losing in the Super Bowl.
The San Diego Chargers are the 11/1 third favorites, followed by the New England Patriots at 12/1. Next in the betting, all at 14/1, are the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cowboys will especially hope to play in the Super Bowl as they are hosting it at their Arlington, Texas stadium on 6 February 2010.
The Green Bay Packers are listed next at 18/1, followed by the New York Jets at 22/1. The Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants are rated 25/1 shots, while the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals can all be backed at 33/1.
All other teams are offered at 40/1 or bigger odds.
